Digital Pathology Network

Digital Pathology (DP) uses integrated technology to create, share, and exchange data and images. It supports the entire workflow, from receiving study material to the final clinical report.

  • Benefits: Improves diagnostic reliability and reproducibility while allowing for faster data acquisition for multiple purposes. It serves as the foundation for computational pathology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications.
  • Project Goals: To build a DP network between the four Pathology Units of Sapienza University. This allows pathologists to consult and share diverse expertise.
  • Educational Impact: The digital case archive provides essential material for training medical students and residents.
  • Clinical Support: Supports Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards (MTB) and allows for real-time intraoperative consultations (frozen sections) by specialists from other institutions, reducing diagnostic errors.
  • Innovation: Digital archives provide datasets for AI training, opening new diagnostic possibilities and telemedicine applications that benefit both patient care and medical education.
